I just want to say that I think it’s very telling that Dave opened his eyes and said that line while looking at Kurt- the line he was supposed to be delivering to his future partner in his fantasy.

Something tells me that in this moment, for one brief flicker of realization, Dave and Kurt both realize that the their future partners, many years from now, are going to be each other. It’s like…they just know in that moment that their destiny is going to be each other. 

And they both know it’s going to take a fucking long time and a lot of individual growth before they both get to a place where it will be feasible, but they know it’s going to happen. They have these looks of relief and discovery, like they know they’ve finally each found each other, as soulmates.
